Messi’s Argentina

I loved Argentina.

I hated Argentina.

Being half Argentinean made me not feel Dominican enough. When other people talked how Argentineans think they are Europeans, it made me feel like I was not Latino enough. And when I played futbol it made me feel like I was not American enough. So when my father was out the picture, I gave it up.

In 94, I watched every Argentinean game. In 98, I barely watched the team play. By 02, I did not even realize a World Cup was taken place.
It was not until an era where I learned to read/write in Spanish and to come to terms with my Argentinean roots that I returned to playing futbol. At the same time the Home Depot worker's lounge had the 06 World Cup on everyday. It was Messi’s first World Cup and the first time I would follow an Argentinean player from the start of his national debut until this moment.

Since then, I have never owned more jerseys from one single athlete. The Messi number 10 jersey has followed me in most travels. It was the name I would get called by from strangers that admired the player and jersey. And in many instances I would pass up my beloved jersey to a new friend.

Messi is the most respectful player in an age of scandalous idols and viral disrespect. He has been an inspiration for Argentina and people of all backgrounds. Yet critics still talk shit. It goes to show that it does not matter what they think of you. Just focus on God, family, and your purpose.
Argentina is not in Europe but it does have a lot of European influences. Perhaps their "more" European roots and Italian swagger make them stand out/outcasts among Latin American nations.

A stigma that leads to Latinos not showing love to a brother with the same father.
Argentina represents Latin America futbol. She has become a legendary team because she plays with other legends. When Brazil wins a World Cup title, it makes Argentina and all of Latin America proud and inspired to do the same. So when Argentina is in the finals we also know that Latin America is in the finals. This includes the US, esp. if you are in Miami or New York & Boston’s el Barrios.
Lionel Messi will be playing his final game with the Argentine National Team.

God bless God speed - Let's make it 3!!!
